ABOUT AKLAVIK

Aklavik is located on the Peel channel of the Mackenzie River Delta 113km south of the Arctic Coast. Road access is limited to the ice road across the Mackenzie Delta to Inuvik that is only present in the winter.

Aklavik is a peaceful fishing and trapping community of some 600 Gwich'in and Inuvialuit. Gwich'in and Inuvialuit have traditionally gathered here to trade for goods from as far away as the Pacific and Arctic coasts.
